Nightwing comics has found its new writer. DC Comics has formally announced that Benjamin Percy will inherit the series from Tim Seeley. Seeley exited the post of ongoing writer with issue #34 in November. The series has featured a series of guest writers whilst the publisher sought a new permanent writer.
Percy comes from successful runs on both Teen Titans and Green Arrow so is well accustomed to working at DC. In a statement Percy said “Consider how Gotham and Blüdhaven are shadow-soaked, crime-ridden environments. One of the things I love about Nightwing is his irrepressible optimism. This joy—a love of the game, a showman’s theatricality—is tonally essential to my approach.”
Percy’s opening gambit storyline is called “The Bleeding Edge,” and will introduce a new technologist who establishes a holographic, interconnected city where everyone is linked to a larger network. It’s the Internet in real life, and it introduces a whole new spin on gentrification.
When Blüdhaven becomes the next target, Nightwing uncovers a sinister plot behind it all, and it becomes a threat to the entire DC Universe.
Nightwing #44 is due for release on May 2 with cover art by Declan Shalvey and variants from Yasmine Putri. Checkout Shalvey’s artwork below:
