SDCC 2017: Is there a new ‘Ghostbusters’ on the way?

Ghostbusters

Whilst last years all female reboot didn’t quite set the franchise alight it seems all is not lost for Ghostbusters. Screenrant is reporting that original series director Ivan Reitman touched on the subject of a new film during an SDCC panel.

At the Ghostbusters themed panel set to discuss all things film, cartoon and comic for the franchise the 35th anniversary of the first film came up and Reitman had this to say: “Well, the studio is working on some really nice things. First of all, I can’t believe the movie is still playing and being watched so assiduously… and I can’t believe I’m so old. Yeah, I think there’s going to be a lot of fun, a lot of special things. We’re going to try to tie one of our films close to that date.”

Though Reitman doesn’t go in to great detail it has been widely reported in the press that multiple Ghostbusters films were in development. Even during the development of 2016 film it was reported that a further live action and an animated feature were in development.

The 35th anniversary of the original Ghostbusters could also see a re-release of that original film remastered and perhaps in 3D a la T2. Recent comic books have seen the male and female Ghostbusters teams meet up for an almighty franchise mashup, perhaps the same could be recreated in film.
