Suicide Squad director David Ayer is at Comic Con this weekend to promote his new Netflix movie Bright. Whilst doing the rounds of press there has naturally been questions about his first entry in the DCEU but also his next one… Gotham City Sirens.
Speaking with IGN Ayer discussed the reasons why he chose to work on Gotham City Sirens and not a Suicide Squad sequel.
“It’s a story about three fantastic women who’re trying to find their way in the world, and realise that they have more power together than they do individually.” He added, “I have daughters, and I want to create something that might be able to help them get along in the world a little bit.”
It’s widely known that the film is a passion project for Haley Quinn actress Margot Robbie. Rumours circulated a while back that Robbie pitched the film to Warner Bros. herself. Gotham City Sirens is known to be produced by Robbie via her LuckyChap Entertainment.
Ayer was asked whether Quinn might sport a new (perhaps classic) look in the film. In response he said “Let’s put a pin in that. Maybe next Comic-Con.” later adding, “Everybody evolves.”
