‘Wonder Woman’ soars towards $600m worldwide

Wonder Woman is continuing its domination of box offices worldwide after crossing the $550m mark. After the final receipts had been counted the film fell only 29.5% in its third weekend at the North American box office. The Patty Jenkins directed film was able to take in another $41.3m after expectations set the bar at $30-35m.

However it wasn’t a high enough performance to stop Wonder Woman from falling to second place. Disney/Pixar’s Cars 3 took the top spot with a respectable $53.6m. A drop of under 30% gives Wonder Woman Warner Bros. its best third weekend for a superhero picture since The Dark Knight ($42m). Overall the film is currently sitting at $275m at the North American box office. If it can continue to do business at this pace then by the end of it’s fourth weekend we will be looking at upwards of $315m which would give the film a x3 multiplier from its opening weekend.

It is also worth noting that after 17 days in release Man of Steel had grossed $248.5m meaning Wonder Woman is tracking around 10% higher. Similarly that $41.3m weekend puts the film ever-so-slightly ahead of Suicide Squad. When all is said and done expect Wonder Woman to fall somewhere around the same North America gross as Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Internationally Wonder Woman was able to gross another $40.3m across 16,000 screens in 62 territories. It’s running total has now reached $298.4m outside North America and $573.5m worldwide.

China continues to be a strong player, although the film has fallen to third place it has so far made $82.7m. Wonder Woman was also able to hold the top spot here in the UK for a third week. The top international territories are: China ($82.7m), Brazil ($23.3m), UK ($20.7m), Mexico ($18.9m) and Australia ($15.2m).

Over this next week and weekend the film will pass the $600m mark but where will it end?
