DC Comics has announced its next animated feature film, ‘Batman and Harley Quinn’. Our first look at the film comes courtesy of Empire Magazine and its clear to see its inspiration.

Bruce Timm returns to the style which made his name in the 90s as part of ‘Batman The Animated Series’. The story revolves around the reluctant team-up of Batman, Nightwing and Harley Quinn as they try to stop a global catastrophe caused by Poison Ivy and Jason Woodrue, AKA the Plant-Master.

‘Batman The Animated Series’ fans will rejoice in the news that Kevin Conroy and Loren Lester will be returning to voice Batman and Nightwing. Those hoping that Arleen Sorkin will return to the role of Harley Quinn may be sadly disappointed. The actress who first brought the character to life hasn’t played the role since voicing the ‘DC Universe Online’ videogame back in 2011.

Instead the role of Harley Quinn will be voiced by ‘The Big Bang Theory’ actress Melissa Rauch. Speaking to Empire about taking on the role Melissa said ‘I love that Harley is a badass and, beyond that, that she uses her humour as another weapon in her arsenal. She knows just how to diffuse a situation with her humour, and how to incite a situation with her sarcasm. It’s a dream role.’

Rauch added ‘I knew Harley had a higher pitched tone, and a bit of a New York accent — and I come from a New Jersey family where everyone could be former gun molls. So I wanted to give a nod to my background without being as shrill. In all honesty, I used to speak exactly like that, my acting school professors really worked the accent out of me. So it was fun to find those tones and accent again.’

Page Brewster will voice Poison Ivy whilst John DiMaggio appears as Swamp Thing. Additional voice are provided by Eric Bauza, Rob Paulsen, Robin Atkin Downes, Mindy Sterling, Trevor Devall.

Check back for more news on the film as it becomes available.
