The first details of ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ have hit the web courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. We’ve also got a series of stills from the magazine to give us our first good look at the film. It’s clear to see from the stills that director Take Waititi is having some serious fun with the franchise.
Chris Hemsworth is sporting a new costume as the God of Thunder. His trademark locks have been replaced by a new haircut to boot. The colour palette of the film also seems to be in stark contrast to previous entries. Could this be the most fun we’ve ever seen Thor have!? There are also first looks at Cate Blanchett as Hela and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie. Our old friend Loki (Tom Hiddleston) also makes an appearance.
Speaking of the films tone Hemsworth says “Taika has such a quirky, left-of-field sense of humor, which forced all the characters and the tone of the whole story to head in a new direction. Each day we were like, ‘Are we pushing it too far? Are we allowed to have this much fun?'”
The director also discussed his own feelings about the tone of the film with the magazine. “I think sometimes people mistake a tonal shift as ‘We’re just going to make some ridiculous broad comedy where no one gives a s**** what happens and everyone gets stoned and sits around talking about saving the universe. We want people to care what happens and care that the hero succeeds. I think tonally it’s like a slight shift. I don’t feel nervous, I feel good about it.”
In Marvel Studios Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok, the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization, at the hands of an all powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger the Incredible Hulk!
