With Kate Beckinsale reprising her role as the deadliest vampire warrior around, fans of the previous movies are looking forward to the first vampire vs werewolf face off since the 2012’s ‘Underworld: Awakening.’
On August 27th, 2014, a reboot of the classic ‘Underworld’ series was announced. Lakeshore Entertainment, along with Corey Goodman, developed a script to revitalise the franchise.
The first official trailer for ‘Blood Wars’ dropped in early September, and we’ve been given a glimpse of who and what to expect in 2017.
This time around, Selene once again finds herself caught in the relentless war between the vampire coven and the Lycans, however it isn’t only the werewolves and their new leader Marius (Tobias Mendez) she has to worry about. In the trailer, we see the vampire Semira, played by English actress Lara Pulver (who some may recognise as The Woman in Benedict Cumberbatch’s ‘Sherlock’)
Semira is determined to end the escalating war between the vampires and the Lycans by any means necessary, even if it means killing Selene and drinking her blood to become ‘indestructible.’
Faced with threats from both sides, Selene enlists the help of Theo James’ David, and his father Thomas, portrayed by Charles Dance of ‘Game of Thrones.’
The trailer promises what we have come to expect and love from the ‘Underworld’ franchise, with incredible special effects, action-packed battle scenes on an epic scale, and a hint at romance between Selene and David, a character who is highly likely to be a more central protagonist in future flicks.
Director Anna Foerster will be hoping to eclipse the performance of ‘Awakening,’ which grossed $160 million worldwide in 2012. Foerster, known for her work on ‘Outlander’ and ‘The Day After Tomorrow,’ makes her directing debut with ‘Blood Wars.’
Despite some delay in the release process, the film is expected to be unleashed to its devoted fan base in January 2017.
