The weekend is over, the numbers are in and ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ has fallen $20M short of the opening weekend of its predecessor but not one to be knocked the film has still taken an incredibly impressive $187.7M over the course of its opening weekend.

Back in 2012 ‘Avengers’ (minus the ‘Assemble’) took a whopping $207.4M in its opening weekend setting the record for the biggest opening weekend of all time at the US box office. ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ will now hold the title of the second biggest opening weekend of all time.

Internationally the film has now taken an impressive $439M with its opening in Japan and China still to take place.

Globally the sequel has now made $626M off the back of a reported budget of $250M.

It’s a shame to see the film fall short of estimates and also to fall short of its predecessor considering the wide ranging acceptance that it betters the previous instalment in many ways. There’s no doubt the film will have a long run in cinemas and the re-watch potential is high (we’ve seen it twice so far) so its profitability is not in question but its success remains to be seen.
