In celebration of the 75th anniversary of The Joker making his first appearance in DC Comics director David Ayer has gone ahead and released the first official photo of 30 Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto playing the character in his upcoming adaption of ‘Suicide Squad’ comics due for release on 5th August 2016 in the US.
Last week paparazzi managed to sneak a photo of Leto showing a friend a picture of himself in costume on his mobile. The photo quickly did the rounds and our colleagues at Batman-News.com were able to procure the original photo and show off The Joker in all his tiny, blurry glory (check it out here).
What fans weren’t able to see in that small photo was the plethora of tattoos that Ayer’s version of The Joker seems to be sporting and it’s caused nothing short of controversy… are you surprised? We here at GYCO tower actually really like the look, the tattoos are a little intense but unless he’s running around naked for the bulk of the film this is very likely just a photo showing off more of the psychotic characterisation rather than how he will appear in every frame of the film in which he appears.
Our favourite tattoo? The grin on his right arm.
Our least favourite? The word ‘damaged’ on his forehead. That one’s just a little too much for us.
‘Suicide Squad’ co-stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn; Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg with Will Smith as Deadshot and Viola Davis as A.R.G.U.S. head Amanda Waller.
Ayer acts as both writer and director on the film.
