Synopsis
Scrapper’s risk-taking has put his friends in great danger. Rescued by a secret cadre of feral cats, it’s now up to him and his feline posse to spring Tank and Daisy from of one of the most secure SMITE bases in the whole city. If you ever wished the cats in Stray could kick Skynet’s ass, this is your book.
Review
In this issue we come across a groggy Scrapper as he is awoken in the back of a garbage truck, awoken by his freedom makers a group of stray cats, not the most likely of rescuers but like Scrapper they are out to topple this corrupt corporate entity SMITE. It will take a lot of convincing to get Scrapper to believe in himself again and find the inner fire to take down this biggest threat to the city. There is a way but they will need help Scrapper knows the right ones to call on to enable him to infiltrate the inner sanctum and rescue his trusted friends. The time for planning has gone now is the time for action, SMITE must be stopped and Scrapper is the one to do it. At first this was just about what SMITE have done to others and the hurt they cause but recent information has made this more personal to Scrapper than it was before.
I never once thought that a super action hero dog would be a comic character that I would be invested in but Scrapper has definitely caught my attention in all the best ways. Cliff Bleszinski and Alex De Campi are probably the most lively writers to jump out to the forefront of people’s attention at the moment. Scrapper is just what we need at the moment, when life is looking dreary look towards a dog version of Bruce Willis to get you through. I absolutely love the writing of this series and hope to see more beyond this first run. In the meantime I’ll definitely be having words with my dog telling him to up his game.
The artwork for the book definitely has that hard impact that is needed for this dark industrial world to visually describe the underlying depression and anger that walks along these sodden streets, Ryan Kelly and Jordie Bellaire provide the perfect pairing to illustrate this series each panel packs an action packed lunch that will most definitely put a smile on your face. Scrapper is wild ride and I am definitely here for it.
Verdict
Now the series has come into it’s own, the hard hitting action packed story is coming to it’s epic climax and you can’t help but get behind Scrapper as he embarks on a David Vs Goliath battle that is most definitely something you’ve never seen before, but you must certainly see it this is the series not to be missed.
