Scrapper #2 is published by Image Comics, written by Cliff Bleszinski and Alex De Campi and illustrated by Ryan Kelly and Jordie Bellaire.

Issue #2 is available 23rd August 2023 either directly from Image Comics online or from your local comic book store, digital copies will be available to download from the usual content providers.

    Synopsis

Reeling from the loss of his home and with dozens of SMITE stormtroopers on his tail, Scrapper has to flee across town. Tank recruits the city’s other critters to give him a paw (or wing).

    Review

In this issue we see the aftermath of SMITE repossessing the restaurant Scrapper used to call home, with SMITE on his tail as he is more than just a normal dog, Scrapper teams with his friend Tank to outwit the power force that controls everything in this world the heroic twosome are determined they won’t control them. Scrapper must use his talents and street friends to his advantage to get the upper hand on his pursuers as the two need to find a way to shake SMITE and rid Scrapper of this tracking device around his neck so the two can break free, this cat (or even dog) and mouse story has just stepped up a notch.

Having enjoyed Cliff Bleszinski’s previous life as game developer (developed one of my all time favourite games, Gears of War) I am pleased to see his talents don’t just end at games for his writing skills have perfectly adjusted to create a story that has captivated me within the first two issues. The story of a underdog hero is one that I always enjoy getting into and love seeing them sticking it to the “big guy”, Cliff and Alex De Campi work well together to build a new world where the little guy is not willing to lay down, the Scrapper story is all set to open up into a big fight between right and wrong, big and small with the so called small guy willing to fight against the corporate ruling world which many readers would relate to in a real life situation.

I really like the art style of this book, the dark dystopian urban world is expertly brought to life on the pages with the artistic talents of Ryan Kelly and Jordie Bellaire, both bringing their art styles together to give the feeling of the book more depth for the reader. The tense emotion is given more feeling through the dramatically dark art style that allows the reader to live the journey of the dare some duo.

    Verdict

This is what looks to be another great series from Image Comics, an unlikely lead character where a dog is the hero, you may have seen feel good dog movies before or even read books but you’ve never quite come across a dog like Scrapper but I definitely want to. If you like your stories in a tense Sci-Fi world then you definitely need to grab yourself a copy of this.
