THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE Steals the Top Spot in Latest UK Official Film Chart

It’s Wednesday lunchtime and that means it’s time to check out this week’s UK Official Film Chart as The Super Mario Bros. Movie storms to the top spot, knocking last week’s number one, Scream 6, down to ninth place!

Earning over 63,000 digital download-only sales in its first week, the film – which features the voices of Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Seth Rogan and many more – outsells the rest of the Top 10 combined to claim a big Number 1 debut.

Based on Nintendo’s flagship, iconic video game series, The Super Mario Bros Movie sees Mario (Pratt) and Princess Peach (Taylor-Joy) journey through the Mushroom Kingdom to find Mario’s brother Luigi (Day) and save the world from the ferocious and evil Bowser (Black).

Zipping back up 14 places is Marvel Studios feature Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, which lands back at its previous peak of Number 2. Also on the rebound is Creed III which bounces up five places to Number 3, a new peak for the title. Dropping two places to Number 4 is former Number 1, Avatar: The Way of Water.

Another huge climber comes from Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, flying 17 (5) and finishing just ahead of Fast & Furious 9 (6), and Roald Dahl’s Matila the Musical (7) which catapults 11 places.

Top Gun: Maverick also finds itself back in the Top 10, up four (8), while last week’s chart-topper Scream VI tumbles eight places (9). Rounding off this week’s Top 10 is Dune (10) which rebounds five spots.
