I Know What You Did Last Summer streams new episodes Friday’s via Amazon Prime Video.

    Synopsis

I Know What You Did Last Summer is a modern take on the hit 1997 horror film that honours the samechilling premise – in a town full of secrets, a group of teenagers are stalked by a mysterious killer ayear after a fatal accident on their graduation night. The project is based on the 1973 novel by Lois Duncan.

The series is is produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television. Sara Goodman will write and executive produce along with executive producers Shay Hatten, Original Film’s Neal Moritz and Pavun Shetty and Atomic Monster’s James Wan, Rob Hackett and Michael Clear.

    Review

When I heard they were rebooting one of my favourite horror flicks I just had to take a look. I Know What You Did Last Summer is more of a redo than a reboot, using the original concept and modernising the story for a contemporary audience. It works really well, maintaining the high school vibe but taking it in a much darker direction. I am all in for it.

Beginning with episode one, the story slowly builds up a dark foundation for what is to come. We see the toxic relationship between twins Lennon and Allison (played perfectly by Madison Iseman), their close group of high school friends meet at a graduation party where things begin to turn sour rather rapidly.

Much like the original movie series an unfortunate accident is about to rip the young group out of their comfort zones. Their world is turned upside down in ways they could have never imagined, with far darker consequences than I ever thought could happen. Will the group admit to the accident and let the law take its path? Or cover it all up and live the lie? Of course the title gives away the choice they make on that eventful summer night.

As the season progresses the story flows well but it is certainly a series which the audience needs to give their full attention to. This isn’t a series you can just glance at due to its many twists and turns. I Know What You Did Last Summer does offer answers as you move through the season. But it’s not all dark and gloomy, there are smart comedic moments littered throughout the series for good measure.

The series’ casting is superb Madison Iseman plays both of the twins excellently, I even googled to see if she had a twin. When you see the twins on screen together it looks seamless. It’s as if there are two separate people bouncing off each other in those scenes. Hats off to Madison and the VFX team for making it seem so real. All the actors in the lead group work well. They have a genuine chemistry on screen which makes the friendship relatable and genuine.

Of the episodes I have screened so far, episode four was easily my favourite. It brought together events from all the prior episodes and gave the story a strong sense of direction moving forwards. Think of it like a half time regroup, now I can confidently watch the rest of the season knowing that I’m up to speed with the story. Whilst I found the first 4 episodes a surprisingly good watch I believe the best is still yet to come.

Overall I would say that I Know What You Did Last Summer has surprised me as a series. I enjoyed the movies but was worried that rebooting it would kill the magic of the original. I will say that this series

so far is bang on storyline is good and the casting works well, I can’t see this going any further after the series ends but we shall see.

    Verdict

I Know What You Did Last Summer is compelling viewing for fans of jump scares and 90’s horror. I highly recommend it.
