RADIANT BLACK Pays Homage To Power Rangers With Variant Cover

The eagerly anticipated forthcoming superhero series Radiant Black by Kyle Higgins (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Ultraman, C.O.W.L.) and Marcelo Costa will launch from Image Comics with a nod to the popular line of Power Rangers helmet covers. Goñi Montes will lend his talents for a highly collectible 1:50 limited homage variant to spike the adrenaline for readers over the forthcoming superhero series.

    Radiant Black
boasts early comparisons to Higgins’ previous work revitalizing the Power Rangers brand with his thirty plus issue run on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, including the smash hit Shattered Grid, for a contemporary superhero mentality similar to the iconic Invincible series by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley. Kirkman himself calls Radiant Black, “the perfect superhero comic for anyone missing Invincible.”

The Hollywood Reporter also recently revealed the Radiant Black trailer, featuring an original song, titled “Radiant,” by the band Crisis Couture.

Radiant Black #1 introduces Nathan Burnett who has just turned thirty. Things aren’t great: He’s working (and failing) at two jobs, his credit card debt is piling up, and his only move… is moving back home with his parents.

But when Nathan discovers and unlocks the ethereal, cosmic RADIANT, he’s given the power to radically change his fortunes!

There’s just one problem: The powers don’t belong to him. And the COSMIC BEINGS who created them want them back… by any means necessary.

“I’ve told this to Goñi over the years, and it’s absolutely true—his very first helmet covers directly inspired my take on how to reimagine Power Rangers for a contemporary, ongoing comic book,” said Higgins. “His covers are so iconic, and in my opinion, one of the biggest reasons our series found an audience. I’m so honored for Goñi to join us on Radiant Black.”

Radiant Black #1 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, February 10:

    • Radiant Black #1 Cover A Cho – DEC200009

    Advance praise for Radiant Black:

“The perfect superhero comic for anyone missing Invincible, or anyone who hated Invincible, or anyone who never read Invincible… the perfect superhero comic for anyone… Fall in love with superheroes again. Read Radiant Black!” —Robert Kirkman

“Bright, smart and too much fun—classic saturday morning superhero greatness remade for a new generation!” —Scott Snyder

“Radiant Black is the most fun I’ve had reading a new superhero comic in years. It’s the sort of book I’ve been dying to have on my pull list again.” —James Tynion IV, Batman, The Department Of Truth

“Doesn’t feel like a revival or a reboot—this is a superhero for right now. I can’t wait to see where it’s going.” —Kurt Busiek, Astro City

“The spiritual successor to Invincible—a brand new superhero for Image Comics with gorgeous art, clever dialogue, and a wonderful mix of the human and the fantastic. Check it out!” —Joe Henderson, Skyward, showrunner of Lucifer

“Higgins’ most powerful and, more importantly, most personal story to date. An original Image superhero series for the next generation.” —Ryan Parrott, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Dead Day

“Brought me back to that same feeling I had when I first read Invincible: the tone and feel of classic old school superhero comic book joy, updated and filtered through a modern lens. A fantastic creative team elevating each other’s work from panel to panel.” —Robbie Thompson, Meet the Skrulls, Teen Titans, Supernatural

“A fresh take on a classic setup—dreams withering, a frustrated young man is forced to move back home and in with his parents to get his life together. A drunken night and a shocking unearthly experience hint at major consequences to come. I loved this perfectly executed first issue.” —Christopher Golden, Baltimore and Joe Golem: Occult Detective

“Amazing dialogue. Incredible reversals. Surprising twists. All with a strong character arc at its center… A blast from start to finish.” —Marc Guggenheim, Arrow, X-MEN Gold

“I would absolutely recommend to folks missing Invincible or who want a fun and hilarious action comic to add to their pull list!” —Leila del Duca, Wonder Woman: Tempest, Afar, Sleepless

“I loved this. It’s got that rich, character-driven early Ultimate Spider-Man, Invinciblevibe. Superheroes should be fun.” —Alex Paknadel

“A modern hero story that really hits home—especially for those of us that feel like we still haven’t hit our stride or gotten as far along in life as we should’ve.” —Brian Buccellato, The Flash, Sons of the Devil

“What a breath of fresh air… Bridges the gap between who we are and what we all aspire to be. It is sleek, unique, and oh so prescient.” —David Gallaher, Convergence: Green Lantern Corps, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint

“The spiritual successor to Invincible—a brand new superhero with gorgeous art, clever dialogue, and a wonderful mix of the human and the fantastic. Check it out!” —Joe Henderson, Skyward, showrunner of Lucifer

“An excellent superhero romp with slick art and an extremely cool looking hero—looking forward to reading more.” —John McCrea, Hitman, Dead Eyes
