DC Comics has delivered some huge news as part of this year’s ComicPro event taking place in Glendale, California through February 22. The publisher has announced one of its flagship titles, Batman, will be returning to a new #1 in September 2025 with a brand new creative team.
The surprise announcement confirmed that following August’s Batman #163 and the wrap-up of the “Hush2” arc, current creator Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee will hand over the reigns to incoming writer Matt Fraction and artist Jorge Jiménez. Fraction delighted the comic book retailers with an in-person appearance at ComicsPro to help make the announcement.
“I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Batman. It was the first comic I ever read,” said Fraction. “Jorge and I have a very superhero-forward kind of take on Batman. We’ve got a new Batmobile, we’ve got a new costume, we’ve got new characters, and we’ve got a lot of old ones too—good and bad; all the stuff that makes Batman the coolest character in comics. We want to celebrate it all.”
DC’s new Batman #1 becomes only the fourth renumbering for DC’s Batman comic book series in the title’s 85-year history. Under Fraction and Jiménez, Batman will have a new blue and grey costume, a new Batmobile, and the series will usher in a new look for Gotham City.
Batman #1 will release in comic book stores in September 2025.
