Overnight word has broken that ABC Studios have greenlit a Marvel’s ‘The Inhumans’ show direct to series. In doing so the studio has also struck a deal with IMAX to screen a version of the first two episodes in theatres. These episodes will also be filmed entirely in IMAX.
The deal covers production, marketing and distribution costs with the cinema chain premiering the series in IMAX theaters next summer. ABC will then debut the weekly hour-long drama on television the following in September 2017.
Marvel fans will remember that an ‘Inhumans’ film was planned as part of the third phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Due for release in 2018 the film quickly dropped off the Marvel slate following the heavy use of Inhuman characters in current TV series ‘Agents of SHIELD’. Variety reports that Marvel’s ‘The Inhumans’ will not be released to the ‘SHIELD’ series.
No news yet on writers, cast or a showrunner for the series but expect this news to come soon.
