Despite the best efforts of internet trolls Captain Marvel has had a record breaking opening weekend at the global box office. The latest Marvel Studios release has raked in a massive $455M worldwide.
Starting out in its home territory Captain Marvel took $153M across the weekend. That makes it one of the top March debuts of all time and the seventh highest opening with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Internationally the film was able to bring an a hugely impressive $302M. Leading the pack was China with an estimated $89.3M, the third largest opening for the MCU in the territory. According to BoxOfficeMojo behind China is South Korea with a $24.1M debut followed by the UK ($16.8M), Brazil ($13.4M), Mexico ($12.8M), Australia ($10.7M), Indonesia ($10.1M), Russia ($9.8M), France ($9.2M), Germany ($7.8M), India ($6.9M), Thailand ($6.6M), Taiwan ($6.4M), Philippines ($6.3M), Malaysia ($5.6M), Italy ($5.5M) and Hong Kong ($5.2M).
The movie opens in Japan next week, the only remaining territory left to open.

Jackson as Nick Fury, Jude Law as Mar-Vell, Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Djimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, and Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch, Algenis Perez Soto and McKenna Grace in as-yet-undisclosed roles.
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck from a script they wrote with Liz Flahive, Carly Mensch, Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Captain Marvel is in cinemas now.
