DC Comics has used their new DC Universe streaming service to officially announce that James Gunn is on board for Suicide Squad 2. On Thursday’s DC Daily host Tiffany Smith broke the news by welcoming Gunn to the DC family. Smith announced that Gunn will be writing and directing “a completely fresh take to the franchise” for Warner Bros. Could this be the reboot the press it talking about? Marvel’s Iron Fist has been cancelled by Netflix following the release of its second season. Following a lacklustre response to the first season showrunner Scott Buck was replaced by Raven Metzner for season 2. The episode order was also cut from thirteen episodes to ten. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed overnight that Marvel has struck a deal for Ryan Coogler to return for a Black Panther sequel. It’s no surprise the studio would want Coogler to return after the huge success of the first movie. That film grossed $1.3B following its release in February of 2018 and currently sits as the second highest grossing movie of 2018 behind Avengers: Infinity War. No official release date is set for the sequel as yet but don’t be surprised if the February 12, 2021 date currently reserved by Marvel becomes official. Variety is reporting that Fox president Peter Rice will be ready to close the Disney buyout as soon as January 1, 2019. The trade is reporting that Rice has informed employees of the studio the full effects of the buyout by Disney will come in the second quarter of 2019, New Fox will be ready to go by the first day of the new year. The so-called New Fox will house assets not sold as part of the merger. Lionsgate has released this new sizzle reel featurette for Robin Hood. Dubbed “Pulling Back The Hood” the featuette takes us behind-the-scenes of the new epic retelling of the classic folk tale. We get to see some of the action from the set. There are also interview snippets with all of the principal cast members. Some of the most interesting moments come in seeing lead actor Taron Egerton in archery training.
