Director Neil Marhsall’s Hellboy is now in the middle of its worldwide rollout but it seems those negative reviews have impacted on the movies box office potential. Heading in to the weekend Lionsgate and partners Millennium Media estimates put the movie around $17-20M. Estimations coming out across the weekend put the actual box office figure at $12M. We know little more about the movies performance although CinemaScore announced that opening weekend audiences gave the movie a disappointing “C” score. No international figures have been released. Warner Bros. and partners New Line have plenty to celebrate this morning as Shazam! remains top of the worldwide box office. In its second weekend at the domestic box office the movie held off competition from Hellboy to remain at number 1 with around $25.1M. That’s a drop of -53% which is in line with other comic book movies opening in the $50-60M range. It’s domestic total is now just shy of $95M and will cross $100M by midweek. Over the weekend Disney continued its Star Wars Celebration 2019 in Chicago. Following up the hugely successful trailer release for The Rise of Skywalker the studio went on to preview its new streaming series The Mandalorian.
