This week a brand new arc kicks off in the pages of Star Trek: The Last Starship #7 from IDW Publishing. With the U.S.S. Omega having failed in its mission to safeguard an intergalactic peace conference things are at their bleakest following The Burn. Ahead of the latest issue arriving in comic book stores on May 20 we’re taking a look at the cover art and new preview pages from IDW.

Firstly, let’s take a look at Francesco Francavilla’s cover art for issue #7:

This bold vision of the period between Star Trek’s present and the future of Star Trek: Discovery continues to unite timelines during the franchise’s huge 60th anniversary year. With new series, new ideas and bold future ahead, Lanzing and Kelly have proven time and time again they know how to perfectly translate 60 years of history from the screen to the page. But before we dive in to the newly released pages, let’s take a look at the synopsis for the latest issue:

A brand-new arc starts now! The crew of the U.S.S. Omega are desperately trying to hold the Federation’s vision of a united Galaxy together, but they’re failing. The spirit of cooperation is dead, but Starfleet’s mission might not be, thanks to a research station on the aptly named Deep Space Hope. There, one last shining ray of possibility remains in an ever-darkening universe. A way to put everything back in its rightful place…if only Sato and his crew are bold enough to seize it.

Joining Lanzing and Kelly for this latest chapter are artist Hernan Gonzalez, colourist Lee Loughridge and letterer Clayton Cowles. Take a look at a handful of new pages featuring their artwork below:

Star Trek: The Last Starship #7 arrives in comic book stores and on digital platforms on May 20, 2026. Pre-order your physical copy in the UK from Forbidden Planet or pick up your digital copy from Amazon Comixology.
