News overnight from Deadline as the trade has confirmed casting news for DC Studios’ upcoming The Batman II. As part of a report on Andy Serkis returning as Alfred Pennyworth the trade has confirmed that Thunderbolts* star Sebastian Stan will be portraying Harvey Dent in the Matt Reeves’ directed sequel.
Stan was first rumoured to join the cast of the film back at the beginning of the year. Around the same time that his former Marvel Studios colleague Scarlett Johansson was rumoured to be in talks for a role. Now it appears that both have officially signed on the line with Stan set to take on the legendary Bat-villain Two-Face.
Dent’s role in the script for The Batman II, co-written by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, is currently under wraps. In a recent interview to promote his current film The Drama Robert Pattinson referred to the sequel as “a really different type of Batman movie” even in comparison to its 2022 predecessor. All this has us wondering if Reeves is following his dark, serial killer roots with an adaptation of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s Batman: The Long Halloween with Johansson’s currently top-secret role potentially set to be revealed as Dent’s wife Gilda.
It’s understood that once promotional duties on The Drama are wrapped up Pattinson will immediately move on to final prep for The Batman II with production set to be in full swing by June 2026.
Matt Reeves returns to direct The Batman II with Robert Pattinson, Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell all set to reprise their roles from The Batman and The Penguin. They will be joined by Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan. Also rumoured to return from the first film are Jeffrey Wright and Barry Keoghan.
The Batman II is set to release in cinemas on October 1, 2027.
