This week Scholastic launches an epic new YA romantic saga which is sure to please fans of Romeo & Juliet. The book, Burn the Water, hails from celebrated screenwriter Billy Ray known to audiences across the world for his work on The Hunger Games franchise. Today, Bella sits down with Billy to discuss the book as well as his work in film.
Set in a world forever altered by climate change and war, Burn the Water is a powerful exploration of the human experience, and whether love or hate ultimately conquers all. Never shying away from darkness or cruelty, the novel examines the cost of war on the most vulnerable and the vicious cycles it perpetuates. Billy Ray is best known for his film work, including The Hunger Games (2012) and Captain Phillips(2013), as well as the iconic AMC ad featuring Nicole Kidman. His highly anticipated film adaptation of Sunrise on the Reaping is slated for release later this year.
Burn the Water is available in stores from March 3, 2026.
