Last night Sinners writer/director Ryan Coogler made history as the first black man to win the BAFTA award for Best Original Screenplay. Today he has even more reason to celebrate as Hulu has given the green light to a pilot episode of reboot of The X-Files. The truth may soon be out there once again…
Coogler is said to be writing and directing the pilot for X-Files, once again set to focus on two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents. The two form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involved unexplained phenomena.
Even more news for the pilot as The Piano Lesson actor Danielle Deadwyler has boarded the project as one of the two co-leads. No news yet on who will player the Muldur to Deadwyler’s Scully. Metaphorically that is as the new show is not expected to recreate the roles originally played by Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny. Additionally, Jennifer Yale (The Copenhagen Test) is on board as showrunner and the pilot episode is being cast by Sinners’ casting director Francine Maisler.
In addition to her showrunner duties Yale will also executive produce X-Files alongside Coogler and original series creator Chris Carter, Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler. Simone Harries is co-executive producer in the series which will hail from 20th Television and Onyx Collective.

As per Deadline, Hulu has recently switched to a classic development model or pilot presentations ahead of series orders. Another 20th Century project, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer continuation series is also producing a pilot episode for the streamer.
Carter’s original X-Files starred Anderson and David Duchovny as FBI Special Agents Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, who investigate cases involving paranormal phenomena. The series premiered on Fox in 1993 and ran for nine seasons. It spawned two feature films, The X-Files(1998) and The X-Files: I Want to Believe (2008), as well as a 2016 revival, which aired on Fox for two seasons.
