The Rangers are scattered… and the clock is ticking!

The Prime Power Rangers are fractured, each struggling with their own battles!

Jun is sent away, Lauren risks everything chasing her brother, and Orion is pulled into chaos magic. As Valentina wrestles with loyalty to an old family friend, a dark threat begins to take shape.

The Rangers will need to reunite—or risk losing everything they’ve fought for!

    Review

A new chapter in Melissa Flores’ Power Rangers Prime begins today. The series moves on from its first major villain arc by kicking off a story which is rooted in Flores’ incredible character development. But can more internal conflict drive the series forward as fans clamour for more Ranger action?

These guys just can’t catch a break. Living under the thumb of Eltarian rule has meant the Prime Rangers have had to work in secret. Rather than reap the rewards and adulation which come with their heroism, they’re forced to live in hiding. But as this new arc begins it seems that things under Eltarian rule may be about to change. Descent is in the air and it starts with Lauren and Bulk. Well actually it starts with a group of corrupt Eltarian guards chasing down a poor, innocent mutant. But Lauren and Bulk soon put a stop to things.

It’s a rollercoaster of events which starts an issue that leans in heavily to the Rangers’ current mental state. Whilst they may have won the battle against Jun’s father, losing their friend and being forced back underground is taking its toll. Flores taps in to an issue laden with exposition through Valentina’s interactions with Admiral Janessa. Janessa continues to use her history with Valentina against her and the rest of the Ranger’s adding to the already tense atmosphere amongst the cast.

If you thought Power Rangers Prime was about to get festive for the holidays then think again. Whilst Flores lays the ground work for an Eltarian resistance (from multiple sides) there’s also an inescapable sense of being trapped by circumstance. We might be used to seeing Rangers hiding their identities but never before has it brought quite so much aggression amongst these characters. What’s really cool is seeing Flores continuing to play against type with this group of Rangers. We’re so used to seeing teams come together and then do little more than save the world. Seeing them struggle to keep it together furthers the series already rich character work beautifully.

The series is still able to bring the action as it rounds out 2025. Whilst it feels like Flores is building towards a fight between Valentina and Lauren, it’s elsewhere that the punches finally start flying. Rita’s role in Power Rangers Prime has been fascinating from the outset. She herself says this issue she’s been upfront about needing to use the kids to further her own mission. But given she still has Ranger powers there are still so many questions about where she fits in moving forwards. As a fight breaks out with Lauren it plays to artist Federico Sorressa who is at their best when digging in to the bigger moments of the story.

The cliffhanger to Power Rangers Prime #13 calls back to storylines from the Power Rangers Samurai series. But also tease a much more dastardly resistance to the Eltarians which should cause plenty of trouble for the Rangers in 2026. Now to use the Christmas break to rewatch the series and search for clues to Jayden’s mysterious visitor in prison…

    Verdict

Power Rangers Prime #13 is another shining example of Melissa Flores’ incredible character writing in action. It’s so inherently Power Rangers yet continues to feel fresh with it’s broad approach to character storytelling amongst all that classic martial arts action.
