Review
Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy are back in business—and full chaos. Harley & Ivy: Life & Crimes (2025) kicks off with the definitive origin story of DC Comics’ wildest love story, setting up what promises to be a thrilling tale. While we’ve seen these two together countless times across comics and TV, this series finally gives fans a deeper, more playful look at their unique relationship.
To start things off with a bang, the issue features some gorgeous artwork, including a stunning Mad Love cover recreation. It appears within the issue as a nod to Harley’s past, and the way it is conceptualised in this art style is truly beautiful. There’s also a charming title card sequence, reminiscent of a classic TV show, with panels dedicated to the creative team—a small but delightful touch.
The story opens with the question, “How did you two meet?” If you, like me, immediately shouted aloud, “Back in 1993 on the animated series,” then you’re in the right place. Harley and Ivy recount their chaotic beginnings as if they were a couple reminiscing about a gap year in Greece—cut to reality, where they’re slapping the crap out of each other in a Gotham warehouse. It’s a perfect showcase of their unhinged humour and dynamic.
The story is obviously setting up what will no doubt be something fans of the characters will love, showcasing them in a way that is fun and authentic—but that’s not to say it doesn’t have its twists and turns. Case in point: Mistah J makes a memorable appearance (of course he does), sharing a heated interaction with Ivy that’s bound to make fans of the Harley & Ivy ship squeal. This scene alone makes the issue worth picking up, with subtle hints of what’s to come in future issues.
It’s fair to say that Harley & Ivy: Life & Crimes #1 is all about lore, love, and lunacy. With humour, backstory, and rich character dynamics, it’s an irresistible entry point for both longtime fans and newcomers alike. Harley and Ivy’s witty, chaotic energy shines throughout, making this series a must-read for anyone who loves DC Comics’ most iconic duo.
Verdict
Harley & Ivy are back in full colour, bringing all the chaos, humour, and charm you love. Issue #1 dives deep into their origins, packed with sitcom-style antics and playful touches. Fans old and new will adore the dynamics, lore, and those unforgettable Harley & Ivy moments. An unmissable event for fans of the Harley & Ivy ship.
