Nearly three decades after the outbreak of the rage virus, humanity’s fight for survival takes on new and brutal forms in 28 Years Later, a chilling return to one of the most influential horror stories of our time. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has this week confirmed the film will be coming to digital platforms in the UK on September 1, 2025.
On a remote island fortress, a fragile community clings to order, until one survivor ventures beyond their barricades and into the mainland… where the infected are not the only monsters that have evolved. From visionary filmmaker Danny Boyle (28 Days Later, Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting) and acclaimed writer Alex Garland (28 Days Later, Ex Machina), the latest instalment of the revered saga pushes survival horror into a terrifying new territory – and reveals that time didn’t heal anything.

In our three-star review Neil said “28 Years Later struggles under the weight of its own ambitions, trading the original’s prophetic dread for heavy-handed social commentary. While Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes deliver standout performances and the evolved infected provide genuine scares, Alex Garland’s screenplay feels more concerned with lecturing contemporary audiences than crafting the nuanced warning that made 28 Days Later a masterpiece.”
The film is written by Alex Garland (28 Days Later) and directed by Danny Boyle (28 Days Later, Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting) and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kraven the Hunter, Kick-Ass), Ralph Fiennes (Harry Potter film series, Conclave) and Jodie Comer (Killing Eve, Free Guy). It’s produced by Andrew Macdonald, Peter Rice, Bernie Bellew, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland.
