Last week DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran gathered members of the press for an event at the studio’s offices. As part of a sweeping update on projects right across the burgeoning DCU the co-chairs announced a handful of very exciting new animated projects which are now in development.
First up and My Adventures with Green Lantern, unsurprisingly set in the same world as the fan-favourite My Adventures with Superman cartoon which is currently in production on season 3.
The series will follow high school student Jessica Cruz, whose life is forever changed when the Lantern’s Power Ring falls from the sky and chooses Cruz. Cruz’s life is further complicated debris from an ancient space war arrives along with their alien foes. Jake Wyatt is executive producing, with Stephanie Gonzaga co-executive producing.
The next project announced was Starfire which is set to tell the origin story of the title character, following her adventures after she escapes her home planet of Tamaran to explore the stars. She will be joined on her adventures by Princess Amethyst of Gemworld, a space biker known as Crush and plant-loving Fern. The gang will reportedly set out to uncover the deepest reaches of the DC universe. Josie Campbell is executive producing, while Brianne Drouhard is a co-executive producer.
Finally the studios heads announced Super Powers, set at the Alliance School for Heroes. The series will focus on new students Lightning, Flash, Plastic Man, Aquagirl, Green Lantern, and Terra. In charge of this rag-tag group of heroes will be Principal Martian Manhunter. Matt Beans is executive producing, with Michael Chang serving as a supervising producer.
