VisitLiverpool, in partnership with Liverpool Film Office, has launched the second phase of their screen tourism campaign, Liverpool. The Ultimate Setting, following the release of VisitBritain’s international screen tourism campaign, Starring GREAT Britain.

This phase continues to celebrate and promote Liverpool City Region’s iconic film and television locations, inviting visitors to explore Liverpool through the lens of their favourite films and TV shows, highlighting the region’s vibrant film heritage and its reputation as a top filming destination.

Liverpool. The Ultimate Setting offers visitors a self-guided downloadable map of the region’s most famous film locations, immersive digital walking tours with Reel Tours, quizzes on Liverpool’s biggest stars and curated itineraries for the ultimate film-themed trip to Liverpool City Region. The campaign, which first launched in September 2024, aims to help visitors and film fans discover the real-world settings behind their favourite productions.

From the coastal delights of Southport to the picturesque villages in Wirral and the iconic Liverpool waterfront, Liverpool City Region has served as the backdrop for blockbuster hits such as Peaky Blinders, The Batman, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Harry Potter, Captain America: The First Avenger, and even a music video from pop-superstar, Taylor Swift.

Natalie Wyatt, Managing Director of Liverpool City Region Local Visitor Economy Partnership said:

“Liverpool City Region has long been a favourite location for filmmakers worldwide, and this campaign is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our city region’s cultural richness and cinematic appeal. We welcome visitors to experience the magic of our streets which have doubled as New York, Gotham City, and even fantastical worlds. By aligning with VisitBritain’s ‘Starring GREAT Britain’ campaign, we further solidify our place on the global film tourism map.”

VisitBritain’s latest research shows that more than nine in ten potential visitors to the UK are eager to explore locations as seen on screen highlighting the significant role film tourism plays in attracting visitors.

    VisitBritain CEO Patricia Yates said:

“Our research shows that films and tv shows are powerful draws for visitors and it’s great to see VisitLiverpool roll out the latest phase of its campaign, putting the city and region’s fantastic screen tourism offer in the spotlight. With Liverpool providing the backdrop, inspiration and setting for so many stories brought to life on the silver screen, film loving visitors really are spoilt for choice!

“It’s also timey with the launch our international Starring GREAT Britain campaign, that sees Britain the star of the show. Using films and TV shows as the hook we’re telling the story of our dynamic and diverse destinations including Liverpool, inspiring people to put themselves in the picture, discover more of Britain and book a trip right now.”

Liverpool. The Ultimate Setting also shines a spotlight on the incredible work of Liverpool Film Office, which is currently celebrating its 35th anniversary. Recently, the Film Office has supported major productions filmed across the region including Harlan Coben’s Missing You, BBC drama The City Is Ours, and Guy Ritchie’s upcoming feature film Fountain of Youth. With an exciting slate of productions ahead, it’s shaping up to be another busy year for Europe’s first dedicated film office.

Head of Liverpool Film Office Lynn Saunders said:

“As the most filmed UK city outside of London, Liverpool has always had a starring role on screen and it’s fantastic to see this recognised through Liverpool. The Ultimate Setting. My team have loved seeing visitors explore some of our most prized film locations and discover the magic behind the screen, thanks to the VisitLiverpool campaign. We look forward to welcoming even more set-jetters to Liverpool City Region and showcasing what our beautiful locations have to offer.”
