Just a few weeks ago, DC announced that writer Tom King and artist Ryan Sook are set to launch a brand new series focussing on Dinah Lance, aka Black Canary, in November 2024. Today the publisher is previewing the first issue of Black Canary: The Best of the Best with final cover designs and our first look at interior artwork.
In the series, Black Canary faces her toughest opponent yet, Lady Shiva, in a battle to determine who is the single greatest hand-to-hand fighter in the DC Universe. To make it to the final round, Black Canary will need all her fighting skill and ability, plus additional training from some of DC’s most accomplished fighters, including Batman, Wildcat, and even her mother, the original Black Canary!
The first chapter in the six-issue series features a main cover from Sook with variant covers by David Nakayama, Chrissie Zullo and Dan Hipp. Here’s a look at each of the cover designs:
Otto Schmidt will also pay homage to Dinah’s incredible legacy in the pages of DC with a wraparound cover featuring what we think might be every incarnation of Black Canary to-date!
Interior artwork on The Best of the Best comes from Sook and colourist Dave Stewart. We’re very excited to share a first look at seven unlettered pages from the first issue ahead of its release. These pages tease the epic showdown between Dinah and Shiva and we can’t wait to see where this goes next!
Black Canary: The Best of the Best #1 is available in comic book stores and on digital platforms from November 27, 2024. It is available for pre-order at your local comic shop. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including Kindle, iBooks, and Google Play.
