Breaking news tonight from Deadline. The trade is reporting that DC Studios is currently developing an animated series based on the Blue Beetle character. The project is understood to have been in development for some time with The Casagrandes‘ Miguel Puga on board as the project’s showrunner and director.
No word yet on which of the various heroes to take on the Blue Beetle mantle will star in the show. But 2023’s own Blue Beetle star Xolo Maridueña was expected to carry over playing the role in to James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU. Cristian Martinez (Women of the Movement, Good Trouble) is understood to have boarded the project as writer.
Fans of last year’s film will be happy to know that film’s director, Angel Manuel Soto, and writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer are both on board the series as executive producers alongside John Rikard who served in the same capacity on the film. Galen Vaisman, another of the film’s EPs, will oversee the animated TV series for DC Studios.
