The British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) today announced that after 14 exceptional years at Old Billingsgate, the annual celebration of British independent film and talent, will return to the Roundhouse for the 27th BIFA awards ceremony on Sunday 8th December.

Last seen at the iconic Camden venue in 2007, the 10th British Independent Film Awards saw host James Nesbitt and guests and honourees including Judi Dench, Daniel Craig, Ray Winstone, Jamie Bell, Sam Riley, Carey Mulligan and Tilda Swinton, toast film winners Control, Notes on a Scandal, Eastern Promises, Sunshine and The Lives of Others, before enjoying the legendary BIFA after-party.

BIFA directors Amy Gustin and Deena Wallace said, “We’re delighted to be returning to Roundhouse this year. The opportunity to work with our production partners and the brilliant team at the venue to do something different and really special in the space is incredibly exciting for us, and we hope for the industry we celebrate too.”

The directors added, “It’s an especially fitting partnership as a key focus for both the Roundhouse and BIFA is nurturing, supporting and platforming young creatives and emerging talent in the UK. Our move to the Roundhouse is one of a number of positive steps we’re taking towards raising the public profile of BIFA, which we hope will help renew support for our mission to champion British independent film and talent through our annual awards and year-round initiatives, and safeguard BIFA for the future.”

Miles Eady, Head of Events at the Roundhouse said, “Film and broadcast projects are at the heart of the Roundhouse’s young creatives programme, helping young people find their voice, tell their own story, or take their first step in the industry. That’s why we’re so excited to host the British Independent Film Awards, celebrating the most innovative and creative independent filmmaking in the UK. All the while, the event will be supporting the next generation of filmmakers right here at the Roundhouse.”

The British Independent Film Awards celebrate, promote and support talent and creativity in British independent film, to help develop a rich, inclusive and sustainable independent film culture in the UK.
