Two STAR WARS Movies Set For 2026

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

We haven’t seen a Star Wars movie on the big screen since the divisive conclusion to the Skywalker Saga, The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. However, Disney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed that that’s about to change. According to Iger, The Mandalorian & Grogu, directed by Jon Fabvreau, will be the next Star Wars movie to release in theatres, which in turn will launch a new wave of films.

During Disney’s Q1 earnings call, Iger revealed the theatrical slate through to 2026, and even included releases for 2027. The list confirmed the release window of various Marvel, animated, and even Avatar projects. Among the list were three Star Wars movies.

    Disney’s Star Wars schedule:
    • Untitled Star Wars movie – 22nd May, 2026
    • Untitle Star Wars movie – 18th December, 2026
    • Untitle Star Wars movie – 17th December, 2027

As of right now, we don’t know what these movies are. However, considering that The Mandalorian is set to enter production this year, it is highly likely that the May 22nd release belongs to Din Djarin and Grogu’s galactic adventure.

As for the other two releases, well that is quite the mystery. Steven Knight is currently writing the script for Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s movie which will focus on Rey 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. James Mangold is also working on Dawn of the Jedi, which will explore the rise of the Jedi (and probably the Sith). Then there’s Dave Filoni’s movie which will close The Mandalorian era – likely a loose adaptation of Thrawn’s Heir to the Empire.

We also have to consider that there are probably projects that haven’t been announced yet. We’d guess that Mando and Rey’s films will be set for 2026, with Favreau’s Mandalorian movie setting the stage for Filoni’s live-action conclusion to the New Republic era, which could be the 2027 release on Disney’s calendar.

It’s all speculation at the moment, but we’re thrilled regardless. There was always something special about seeing Star Wars on the big screen, so 2026 is looking to be a fantastic year for Star Wars fans. Now that the calendar has been released, it may not be long before we start receiving official updates. As always, we’ll be sure to keep you updated on any further developments.
