The Scorched #22 is published by Image Comics, written by Sean Lewis and illustrated by Stephen Segovia.

Issue #22 is available 11th October 2023 either directly from Image Comics online or from your local comic book store, digital copies will be available to download from the usual content providers.

    Synopsis

The Scorched team battles for their lives against Terminus and the Planet Eaters with the fate of the world hanging in the balance.

    Review

Jessica Priest/She-Spawn returns but she’s not in the mood for reunions or pleasantries, she has one thing on her mind and that’s Terminus. Once you put a person’s child under threat you risk feeling the Mother’s wrath but when that mother is an evolved version of She-Spawn the wrath is of an apocalyptic scale.

The threat of the end of the Earth is at the forefront as the Scorched have to contend with the Planet Eaters as they ascend on Earth to suck it’s source of living energy dry and therefore wiping out humanity forever. The Scorched are well equipped to deal with the Planet Eaters however there is an endless onslaught for them to deal with which is rapidly draining their physical resources.

As Terminus and She-Spawn come head to head in one of the most surprising one on one battles you may see in comics, Terminus is confident to be able to over power She-Spawn and move on to wiping out humanity but he isn’t going up against a standard She-Spawn this is a She-Spawn that is evolved and enhanced with more power than ever before fuelled by resentment and revenge, this is one dangerous lady. Jessica is at a dangerous cross roads feeling betrayed by the rest of The Scorched and looking for vengeance for those responsible for putting her in this dark place, the world may well be saved but what world will we have left?

This on going series is seeing some of the best creativity from writer Sean Lewis building a dark world that you feel is working towards a monumental finale that could well blow the Spawn multiverse apart. Jessica Priest is fast becoming one of my favourite characters in comics, a fiery character that shows strength above any other and gives an empowered message to the readers that you can’t help but feel the powerful energy from reading it.

Stephen Segovia is one of my favourite artists att he moment and this issue shows why, powerfully graphic illustrations give more power to the written words each panel is an explosion of impactful artwork and powerful colouring that invigorates the story taking the reader on a visual journey that will blow your mind.

    Verdict

One of the strongest stories in comics at the moment keeps getting stronger, Jessica Priest is back with a furious blast and this isn’t for the faint of heart.
