The Scorched #20 is published by Image Comics, written by Sean Lewis and illustrated by Stephen Segovia.

Issue #20 is available 26th July 2023 either directly from Image Comics online or from your local comic book store, digital copies will be available to download from the usual content providers.

    Synopsis

The world is in chaos as the Horsemen continue their plans for Armageddon. Are the Scorched strong enough to stand in their way?

    Review

In this issue we are taken back to a world on the brink of extinction with the Planet Eaters walking amongst the humans, headed up by the most evil Terminus the threat on planet Earth as we know it, Terminus and the rest of his Planet Eaters must be stopped at all costs before the race is wiped out forever, the military are trying to contain what they can but the firepower at their disposal will be futile against this kind of threat. Monolith and the Scorched must stand up and be counted for this is the time for action.

We take a brief break from the battle and pan back to the childhood home of Jessica Priest where her child and her Mother still reside in relative tranquility, but Jessica’s child senses something isn’t right, the figure to raise from the shadows is that of Jessica but what has returned? And with what danger?

From the very first issue Sean Lewis had me gripped with the intense writing style that he uses within these pages, each book has a rawness that hits hard giving the reader a passionate experience that almost guarantees a one read hit. The story of The Scorched has evolved into something epic in scale with each book evolving the story further allowing the characters to grow and combine to form a series like no other.

A series as epic as this requires artwork that enhances the story written on the pages and that’s exactly what Stephen Segovia does, as with every book he’s illustrated bringing his unique style that I always look forward to see, graphic but in a way that gives body to the story. The explosive story comes to life as every panel passes your eyes. The battles look phenomenal and really allows the reader to get deep into the story.

    Verdict

For me the Scorched is definitely one of the series that I look forward to see it coming out, the creative team continue to evolve this series further. If the darkened fight between heaven and hell sparks your interest then you definitely need to get into this arc, it’s not one to be missed.
