It’s hard to believe but it’s been over 10 years since Nintendo has released a side-scrolling Super Mario Bros. adventure. But now following the success of Super Mario Run and a Deluxe port of Mario U, the gaming legends have revealed a brand new game is on the way.
Announced during yesterday’s Nintendo Direct presentation, Super Mario Bros. Wonder will debut on consoles in October 2023 and promises to reinvent Mario for a brand new generation.

As you can see from the trailer above the art style of the Super Mario Bros. world as moved on a bit since New Super Mario Bros. U on Wii U. The character designs have been tweaked and, for the first time, Daisy is now a playable character in the world alongside the return of Yoshi.
The new game also looks set to introduce several new power ups to the game. As the trailer revealed, a new power up will turn Mario in to an elephant character although what powers this gives him are yet to be disclosed. We also get a first look at brand new Wonder Flowers. Touching one of these seems to flip the world around Mario on its head, allowing for the ground to start moving and even herds of sheep to appear and assist (or hinder) the plumbers in their mission.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder releases on Nintendo Switch on October 20, 2023.
