Batman/Spawn #1 is published by DC Comics, written by Todd McFarlane and illustrated by Greg Capullo.

Issue #1 is available 13th December 2022 either directly from DC Comics online or from your local comic book store, digital copies will be available to download from the usual content providers.

    Synopsis

Two dark heroes, cursed by tragedy, find their paths again crossing…but not by choice! What sinister foe is at work, pitting the Dark Knight against the Hellspawn? From the shadows of Gotham City to New York City, this epic event is the blockbuster you’ve been waiting almost two decades for!

    Review

In this special issue the two iconic names in comics collide once more in explosive fashion. In what begins as an all put bloody battle quickly turns into an easy truce as a new assassin immerges from the Court of Owls determined to wipe out the famous caped hero but this is personal for Batman and that means it’s about to get physical. Spawn is on the hunt for Wanda, his one and only love and believes Batman can tell him the answers he needs and in Spawn fashion he can be quite persuasive. The book unravels as Batman and Spawn work together to take down this new foe from the Court, however that may not be the only threat as there is hints of a more darker power pulling the strings.

For me Todd McFarlane is already up there as the godfather of comics (in my opinion) creating a character in Spawn that has become iconic and has been part of many comic reader’s lives for decades, this issue of Batman Spawn only cements that title further for me is the writing which is phenomenal, it has that raw edge that we know and love but also is gritty and packed with intensity. The story was definitely worth the wait but does feel as though there could be more.

The artwork for such dark icons would command artwork that not only highlights the hard hitting and gritty nature it encapsulates the raw energy you’d expect from the characters, the art style from Greg Capullo really gives the reader that raw energy and buzz from reading a Spawn title.

    Verdict

I have been waiting for this since it was announced. My anticipation was at an all time high and I was very glad to see that the creative team have pulled it off, a must read to any comic reader, you won’t be disappointed
