Last night was the annual Game Awards ceremony, the highlight in many gamers calendar as it’s become a hot spot for reveals and brand new trailers. The team at Nintendo were not ones to disappoint, using the event to premiere a brand new clip from The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
The extended clip from the Universal Pictures finds Mario (Chris Pratt) exploring the Mushroom Kingdom alongside the trusty Toad (Keegan-Michael Key). Long-time Mario franchise fans will want to watch very closely as there are plenty of Easter eggs. You’ll also want to listen about for some classic Mario music in the background!

The film stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as the villainous Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Amisen as Cranky Kony, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
This new animated film will be produced by Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo, directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who previously collaborated on the animated series Teen Titans Go! and the film Teen Titans Go! To the Movies. The screenplay of the film will be written by Matthew Fogel, whose writing credits include The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part and Illumination’s film Minions: The Rise of Gru.
Super Mario Bros. will now premiere exclusively in UK cinemas on March 31, 2023.
