It’s hard to believe but 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of the first appearance of Harley Quinn. We don’t need to tell you that the character first appeared in Batman: The Animated Series, but it certainly makes us feel old to think her first episode was three decades ago.
This week, DC Comics drops the 22nd issue of Harley’s latest solo series. But all is not well for the birthday girl as she is last to solve her down murder. This new arc signals the final farewell for the series creative team. It was announced this week that March’s Harley Quinn #28 will mark the debut of a new team, writer Tini Howard and Batman: Urban Legends’ artist Sweeney Boo.
DC has previewed five stunning covers for issue #22, including the main cover from Matteo Lolli and Rain Beredo. Variant covers are by Stjepan Šejić, Natali Sanders, Ryan Sook and David Baldeon. Take a look at all five covers in the gallery below:
The synopsis for Harley Quinn #22 teases that the character will have to solve her own murder in this latest arc:
The Quinn is dead! Long live the Quinn! I get killed in this one…for real! Dead. Deceased. Former. Late. Pushing up daisies. Somebody needs to solve my murder, and since I don’t see Sherlock Holmes or Hercule Poirot around, I guess that’ll have to be me. Though, since I’m dead…there are certain hurdles to overcome. The Harley-est, wildest arc starts right here…get ready for murder, Multiversal mischief, and more guest appearances, with Stephanie Phillips and new Harley Quinn artist Matteo Lolli!
DC is playing their cards close to their chest on this one. With Harley celebrating her 30th anniversary this year, DC clearly has big plans for Joker’s former flame. We do still have three preview pages from the issue to whet your appetite right here…
Harley Quinn #22 hits comic book stores and digital platforms on September 27, 2022.
