The sequel to Godzilla vs Kong has officially started filming which means we should finally be getting more information about this currently untitled sequel. This new installment in the MonsterVerse will mark the fifth title in the colossal franchise, which is continuing to an expand with an Apple TV + series currently in the works. With production well underway, Warner Bros. finally revealed an official synopsis which confirms a few exciting things and teases a new looming threat…
This new synopsis actually confirms something that has been in question ever since the sequel was announced. This upcoming sequel will feature Godzilla and KIng Kong. However, they won’t be at each other’s throats. Instead, the untitled film will see the two legends work together much like they did when Mechagodzilla erupted from the Earth at the end of Godzilla vs Kong.
Now that we have that confirmed, let’s have a look to see what else we can uncover.
This latest entry follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own. The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.

So, rather than fighting a mechanical monster, it’s very likely that Godzilla and Kong will be going up against something that is hidden within the Hollow Earth. The Hollow Earth theory has had a major presence within the MonsterVerse, but we haven’t actually explored it in depth (that might be a pun). We do know that it is very big, ancient, and the home to many different species including Kong’s. Exploring the Hollow Earth will open up quite a few doors. We could get an original monster, similiar to the Skullcrushers from Kong: Skull Island, or we could get a classic Kaiju straight from Godzilla’s vast library of villains.
The phrase “challenging their existence” is an interesting one. We could be dealing with a threat or two that is larger than Ghidorah, and there are quite a few possibilites. There’s Destoroyah, Gigan, Biollante, or even King Caesar. Godzilla has unfortunately been forced to fight many of his battles alone, so for a team-up to work the threat must be next level. For this mysterious entity to challenge the very existence of these giant monsters, it must be something that adds an entirely new layer to the MonsterVerse lore- similar to how Ghidorah confirmed that aliens are very real.
We don’t have a lot of information to go on currently, but it’s certainly a decent starting point. As filming continues, it is very likely that we will find out more information. Perhaps an official title will illuminate things for us? We’ll be sure to keep you posted on all things MonsterVerse related, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for more.
