Gun Honey: Blood for Blood #1 is published by Titan Comics, written by Charles Ardai, illustrated by Ang Hor Kheng, coloured by Asifur Rahman and lettered by David Leach.

Issue #1 is available 24th August 2022 either from Titan Comics online or from your local comic book store, digital copies will be available to download from the usual content providers. Available to pre-order now from your local comic store and Forbidden Planet (UK & Europe).

    Synopsis

With weapons expert Joanna Tan, the legendary “Gun Honey,” off the grid, recuperating from her last job, a vengeful rival takes her place – and frames Joanna for murder. On the run from Malaysia to Milan, from Montana to Monaco, can Joanna catch up to her ruthless enemy…or will she catch a bullet first?

    Review

In this issue we take a step back into the iconic world of Gun Honey, we catch up with Joanna as she has taken herself off grid to have a much needed recharge and maybe forge a new quiet life, well we all know that choosing a quiet life in this world doesn’t happen as a rival who is out for revenge is causing havoc pulling off heists using Joanna’s m.o which in turn puts Joanna in the frame bringing unwanted drama to her door, looks like the quiet life is over for now it’s time for Joanna to get back on the bike. Someone wants to hurt Joanna in the worst way by taking away her life and those around her, this time it’s going to get personal.

This is my first forray into the world of Gun Honey and the writing work of Charles Ardai and felt it was a great introduction to the world. I found Charles Ardai has written a story that inspires feelings of empowerment showing that female protagonists can do just as good a job as their male counterparts as strong comic characters. Gun Honey is a story of powerful characters and vengence in what was a powerful beginning to an arc that will potentially blow the world we know apart.

The illustrations by Ang Hor Kheng enhance that feeling of empowerment using an intense style that elevates the written story and takes the reader on an inspirational journey, you can’t help but get that feeling you could take on the world after reading this.

    Verdict

An empowering story that has laid the foundations for an explosive arc, a fierce femme fatale story that is full of fierce vengance and explosive payback, this arc is definitely going to be one not to be missed.
