Review
In this issue Al Simmons has alot on his mind, if he opens the Dead Zone he could save Wanda’s soul but if he does open the Dead Zone even for a short time this could hold catastrophic consequences. Without knowing who he can trust anymore making that decsision is proving hard probably the hardest he’s ever had to make. As Al is gathering his thoughts a visit from Raven Spawn, the Death Knight makes Al aware that opening the Dead Zone will make him a target for forces above his powers and put a huge target on his head. If ever there was a time when you’d want things to be a bit easier it would be now, the events that come next could be life changing for Al and indeed the universe as we know it.
Sean Lewis is a writer that consistently writes at a high level, each and every book I have read of his has had me hooked, his words have a kind of mesmerising effect on the reader that captures you and doesn’t let you go, when you read a Sean Lewis comic nothing else matters in that moment.
For a dark and dramatic comic there needs to be illustrations that not only match that but make it even better and that is exactly what Javi Fernandez does here, not only does he captures the feeling of Sean’s words he elevates it to a different level, each panel is an engrossing work of art and something that needs to be seen.
Verdict
A series which continually betters itself. Just when I though perfection was reached it gets better. King Spawn is a series from the Spawn multiverse that stands high above the rest, although it is a kind of spin off title it still feels very much central to the multiverse as a whole and I can’t wait to see what’s next.
