Review
As the saying goes “All good things must come to an end” and here we see the final issue of the Home Sick Pilots story and wow what a story it has been from the very beginning.
The Old James House is now stationary with Old James now finally content with all the ghosts now within the confines of the house including the final piece of the puzzle his much loved daughter. The Home Sick Pilots are back together once again within the house and all seems to be going to old James’s plan however Ami and the rest of the band have a secret plan that sits below, something that will bring everything to an end and get back to somesort of normality. Part of the plan that is needed is The Nuclear Bastard or Meg who holds the key to the whole plan going ahead, they must work together one last time and take down Old James once and for all.
From the very first issue of Home Sick Pilots when I was originally introduced to Dan Watters as a writer I was instantly hooked, I thought at first it would be a story about a punk band and centre around them as a band and that alone would have definitely appealed as a story however the story I did get was something far better. A story of mixed emotions and self discovery, not only was this an action horror but it felt more indepth each and every character had their own individual growth that gave the reader a more emotional connection to each one. This arc was a treat for the imagination that took me on a journey beyond my wildest dreams and after each book I was left thinking about what I had just read, each book was beautifully written.
The illustrations of the series were in the expert hands of Casper Wijngaard who brought to life this epic story arc, each page was full of intricate detail with dark and moody tones that took the reader on a dark journey that captivated from the start. Now that this is over I can’t wait to see what this creative team will do next, if it can ever be topped that is.
Verdict
There is no doubt that this is going to be a full mark score, an epic ending to an epic story. The whole series has been a favourite of mine since the first and now it is finished will definitely leave a gaping hole behind. The creative team involved have created one of the greatest series in comics and would love to see more come from this world, I’ve said it before and I’ll repeat again it definitely warrants a TV series or even a film if any of the streaming sites would pick it up and the series has made me want to revisit my punk collection in more depth. If you haven’t got involved then you most definitely need to grab one of the collected editions you won’t be disappointed.
