Amazing news from the realm of Water, Earth, Fire, and Air. Paramount and Nickelodeon have announced that Avatar: The Last Airbender is expanding with three brand new films. According to Deadline‘s report, Lauren Montgomery is set to direct the first installment. Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino, the original creators of the hit TV series, will serve as producers alongside Eric Coleman.
Latifa Ouaou, Paramount Animations’s and Nickelodeon Animation’s EVP of Movies and Global Franchises, will oversee the development of the first film with the Vice President of Animation at Nickelodeon and Paramount, Jason McConnell.
“As original creators Mike and Bryan expand the Avatar universe with us, we’re keeping it all in the family with Lauren bringing the same kind of expert, beautiful work she did on the original series to her new directing duties on the forthcoming theatrical,” said Ramsey Naito, the President of Animation & Development at Paramount and Nickelodeon.
Now, a few reports and rumours have been circulating regarding what these new films will be centred on. While nothing has been confirmed, various sources have suggested that the first movie will feature Avatar Kyoshi, Avatar Roku’s predecessor. The second film will then focus on Zuko, while the third movie focuses on The Legend of Korra‘s era. As with all rumours, it’s best to take all of this with a pinch of salt.
