Apple and Legendary Television are continuing to develop a live-action series set in the world of the MonsterVerse. A new report from Variety that the series, initially ordered back in January, has now found a director and executive producer in WandaVision‘s Matt Shakman.
Shakman is expected to helm the first two episodes of the series alongside his executive producer duties. He picked up an Emmy nomination for his work direction the Marvel Studios series. He has also helmed the episode of Hulu’s The Great alongside episodes of Game of Thrones, The Boys, Mad Men, and Fargo. He is also set to direct the upcoming Star Trek film sequel that is currently in the works.
The currently untitled series picks up following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that levelled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real. The Monsterverse series will explore one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organisation known as Monarch.
Chris Black and Matt Fraction co-created the series with both executive producing. Black will also serve as showrunner. Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures will also executive produce along with Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita of Toho Co. Ltd. Toho is the owner of the Godzilla character and has licensed the rights to Legendary for the series.
