The Dead Zones are proving to be one of the most important aspects of Spawn’s universe. But did Spawn make a mistake by sealing them?
Review
This issue we see the continuation of this dramatic arc, the decision to close The Dead Zones may have been a good idea at the time but signs are starting to show that it may not have been one of Spawn’s best ideas. After the Senate’s assassination all fingers are pointed in Spawn’s direction as the witness accounts prove that a Spawn was there at the time and a Spawn was responsible but it wasn’t THE Spawn, in that case who or what was it? That mystery isn’t Spawn’s only problem as other powers still want The Dead Zones opened, with on his plate there is much for Spawn to do and little time to do it.
The writer for this issue is once again Rory McConville who brings a uniquely thoughtful take on the Spawn character with the story having a more indepth theme that makes you look deeper into the character while at the same time keeping the iconic Spawn feel, out of the different writers involved in Spawn Rory is genuinely one of my favourites his captivating style grips me deeper into the comics everything.
The illustrations from Carlo Barberi are once again top drawer, taking an iconic character and keeping it fresh must be tough but he manages it with ease, each page is crammed with dramatic tones and eye catching detail which is what we come to expect from Spawn and the creative team get it right every time.
I found this issue to be a bit more complex than the others as it goes into more detail of the different situations that are beginning to unfold which makes me very excited to see what is next instore for Spawn, one thing’s for sure it will be edge of the seat stuff.
Verdict
Not as fast paced as the others but another great issue for the series which is definitely building us up for something massive, which I am definitely looking forward to see unfold.
