    Review

The first issue of DC Comics’ new crossover event brings it with it a potential to impact the entire DCU as we know it. Legendary bad guy Ra’s al Ghul is assassinated by Deathstroke which in turn puts him and Deathstroke Inc. in the sights of Talia Al Ghul as she vows to avenge her father’s death. Her plan? To wipe out Deathstroke and Deathstroke Inc. Batman and Robin need to team up and bring Deathstroke to justice before Talia reaches him, but can they? There are some deep issues between them that need resolving can they sort it all out and work together?

Shadow War Alpha has, in one issue, illustrated there some big repercussions to come. Joshua Williamson expertly crafts a deep, dark story which introduces a seismic shift for a number of characters. Though events start off fragmented, the disparate plot threads soon begin to come together for one epic finale which had me on the edge of my seat.

Viktor Bogdanovic rings a visual style to the book which feels in-keeping with the rest of the DC Universe. It’s nothing short of epic and epically dramatic. The darkness in Bogdanovic’s style sits perfectly alongside the tone of Williams story, bringing the two together in a soon-to-be legendary title.

Shadow War Alpha #1 is a gripping title that had me fixated from the first page. The fragmentation of the stories at the beginning lost me a little but in the end part the book blew me away.

    Verdict

This is the start of something special, with Shadow War Alpha #1 DC has the potential to change one corner of the DC Universe forever.
