The brilliant Willem Dafoe, who is back in action as the Green Goblin, has revealed that he has a keen interest in playing one of Batman’s greatest foes. It’s not hard to guess which one, right? Fans have been wanting to see Dafoe as Joker for years and it appears as though Dafoe wants the exact same thing. However, his vision comes with a very interesting twist that involves Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker.
Featuring on the cover of January’s edition of GQ Hype, Willem Dafoe was in the spotlight and he revealed some really interesting details concerning his pitch for his Joker movie. Check out what Willem Dafoe had to say about transforming into the Clown Prince of Crime.
“There is something interesting about, like, if there was a Joker imposter,”
“So it would be possible to have not duelling Jokers but someone that says to be the Joker that isn’t the Joker. And that kind of opens up the possibility of an interesting story, particularly if you had Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, and then you had someone who was either imitating or riffing off what he did. I fantasised about that. But other than that I am not talking to anybody [about it], you’re the first one.”
Now, there have been discussions about Joker 2 which could see Phoenix return. But we haven’t really heard anything since rumors started to circulate back in November 2019. That was a long time ago. Could Dafoe hold the key to a worthy Joker sequel? Who knows. But there is no denying that Dafoe would make a brilliant Joker. Maybe one day his fantasy will come true, wouldn’t that be a treat?
