We love a good musical, so we’re ecstatic to announce that Joe Wright’s Cyrano will be coming to cinemas this January. To celebrate the upcoming release of this adaptation based on the 1897 play Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand, we have a special behind-the-scenes look. Universal Pictures have shared a brand new featurette detailing the filiming process, as well as the decision to turn the play into a musical.
Get ready for romance, music, and one of the most iconic love triangles in literature. When this film was first announced we didn’t actually know much about Cyrano and his origins. However, we’ve had such an amazing time researching Cyrano’s long history. It definitely has us excited. We can’t wait to see this bold and daring attempt to retell this heart-warming tale.
Before you check out the featurette below, we’re delighted to share this wonderful poster and trailer.
Director Joe Wright re-imagines Rostand’s timeless love story in a sublime symphony of music, poetry and romance. Whether dazzling the crowds with his peerless wit or thrilling them with his courageous swordplay in a dual, Cyrano (Peter Dinklage) is a proud officer of the revered King’s Guard, a romantic poet, and secretly in love with his luminous friend Roxanne (Haley Bennett). Convinced his appearance renders him unworthy of her love, when Roxanne falls in love at first sight with handsome new recruit Christian (Kelvin Harrison, Jr.), Cyrano devises a way to convey his feelings through Christian’s hand to Roxanne’s heart, creating a delicate love triangle that must reveal its secrets before the onset of war.
