A sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has officially been confirmed with Destin Daniel Cretton returning to write and direct. Not only that, but he has also signed an exclusive multi-year deal with Marvel Studios and Hulu’s Onyx Collection.
What does this mean exactly? Well, it means that Cretton will be developing multiple projects for Marvel Studios through Disney+ as well as Hulu. According to Deadline, Cretton’s production company Family Owned will focus primarily on highlighting communities that tend to be overlooked in popular culture. So on top of a Shang-Chi sequel, it’s very likely that we’ll get stories concerning other heroes and characters from all different walks of life and we are so ready for it.
“Destin is a powerhouse storyteller with impeccable taste in material. As we continue to expand our roster, Destin’s unique voice will help usher in an exciting slate of content for our global audience”. Said Tara Duncan, President, Freeform & Onyx Collective.
“Working on Shang-Chi with Kevin and the Marvel Studios team was one of the highlights of my life, and I couldn’t be more excited about Tara’s vision for Onyx Collective. I can’t wait to explore new stories and build new worlds with this community,” said Cretton.
The prospect of a Shang-Chi sequel is incredibly exciting. However, as someone who isn’t well versed in the mythology surrounding Shang-Chi… It’s rather difficult to even predict what a sequel would look like. All we know so far is that Cretton will be returning to the MCU with more epic superhero action. That’s enough for us honestly. We’ll just be happy to see Shang on the big screen once again. With this news it’s safe to say that Shang-Chi‘s sequel is in the very early stages of production amd with an array of films and shows coming at us we’ll probably have to wait a while for any further news.
