Synopsis
Kaya, Vraska, Ral, and Jace assemble the most powerful Planeswalkers from across the multiverse for the final battle against a civilization-ending threat. But the terrible and ancient enemy they face is a force too powerful to face head on… With Merit Lage let loose into the universe, the only way to save the multiverse is to make a dangerous alliance with death! Will their veritable array of powers hold off the teeming dead and lead the true threat into their trap?
Review
In what is fast becoming a firm favourite comic book of mine, Magic is definitely shaping up to be one to read. Unfortunately, it also happens to be coming to an end very soon. The Planeswalkers have been left with no choice other than to form alliances with their foes. The force of Merit Lage is far greater than most can tackle alone so it’s time for a team-up. Kaya, Vraska, Ral, and Jace must make choices not for themselves but for the greater good, whether they agree with it or not. The fate of the multiverse depends on it.
What began as a slow burner has fast become a furious page turning. Every page is filled gripping and filled with intense actions. It’s impossible not to fall in love with the misfit team of Planeswalkers as their bonds continue to grow. Bonds built on battlefields and cemented through war.
Over the course of this arc I have become a fan of Jed Mackay. He has brought to life a universe that I have played for many years in my imagination. Time-and-time-again, I couldn’t have put it any better than Jed has done here, building the characters up as the arc progresses towards what will inevitably be an explosive conclusion.
Ig Guara brings wonderfully unique illustrations to the book, as he has done this entire run. Effortlessly bringing to life the characters of the MTG universe in spectacular fashion. Every issue is itself a piece of art.
Verdict
A great story that is unfortunately coming to an end, but what an ending we have instore for the next and final issue promises to be one not to be missed.
